Healthy, natural flea and tick control

This is a question I hear quite often, especially in summer. Those little rotten insects -- fleas -- may be small, but they hide well and reproduce rapidly. None of us want to see our dogs and cats eaten alive by these pesky parasites, but putting controversial chemicals on our pets doesn't seem like a good alternative either. In the past, grocery flea control products were found to have killed pets and were recalled. The main ingredient in some other treatments is being investigated for being carcinogenic.

Fortunately there are plenty of options for winning your battle against fleas and ticks, naturally, without harmful side effects:

1- Maintain good health for your pet. Healthier animals often have fewer problems with fleas. Good quality food, fresh water, fish oil and a good vitamin supplement will all go a long way toward helping your pet fight off pests naturally.

2- Garlic. Did you know fleas, ticks and mosquitoes may avoid your pet completely if you supplement your pet's diet with garlic? We can't smell it, but fleas, ticks and mosquitoes can. Garlic may also offer your pet many other health benefits that we as humans also enjoy when we eat garlic. Garlic is believed to be anti-fungal, antibiotic, helpful to maintaining healthy cholesterol levels and digestion, anti-parasitic and a blood cleanser.

3- Organic Neem Spray. Neem has been used for thousands of years by the people of India, Southeast Asia and Africa. It has many uses but pet owners love it for its ability to release fleas from skin and coat and kill them. Neem spray offers safe flea removal for dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, hamsters, and other small mammal pets. It kills adult fleas and flea larvae. 4- Neem Protect Shampoo. Contains insect-repelling Neem, smells great and works synergistically with Neem spray.

5- Diatomaceous earth. A white to off-white powdery substance made from fossils of prehistoric single-cell organisms, it kills fleas, ticks, lice and other insects. It has many uses, including natural pest control for pets, pest control for home, garden and farming. It is known as a mechanical insecticide. All natural, it kills by physical action, not chemical, by puncturing the insect's exoskeleton and absorbing the moisture in their bodies. It causes the bugs to dehydrate and die and can be very effective. Safe forms of diatomaceous earth, such as the food grade diatomaceous earth that we sell, can be used on pet's coat, in their bedding, in rugs and other surfaces where fleas and ticks may come in contact. Once they do, the powder will begin to kill the insects. In its natural form it is organic, non-toxic and safe to use. An unsafe processed form (heated and treated with flux chemical) also exists. If you have diatomaceous earth for your swimming pool, don't use it with your pets and be careful not to breathe it. Be sure you use only food grade on your pets. The natural unprocessed form of diatomaceous earth can be sprinkled anywhere you want to fight pests like fleas and ticks, including flooring and pet beds.

6- Homeopathic remedies. Homeopathic remedies are natural treatments for many conditions ranging from anxiety to skin irritation. There are also homeopathic treatments from fleas. Homeopathic remedies are natural, affordable, safe, effective and easy to use.

7- Herbal sprays. Fresh herbal fragrance made of natural oils such as cedar oil and clove oil help repel fleas and flies from pets and pet bedding.
